Do you know any project leaders using the "do as I say, not as I do" method? Poor little chickens - run!
Worse - are you an offending project manager, executive, upper manager, etc.? Put that stick w/rusty nail down and go get your DOing on!

I think that kind of management is still very common. And that's natural they have to enforce their commands since they're no leaders and no one would just chase goals they set.
The best what you can do in that situation is actually running, as you propose.
Pawel - sad but true. Too many manager's still carry the stick and have replaced the carrot with a rusty nail. A lot of smart folks have taken to bolting for greener pastures but this isn't solving the underlying problem of bad management.. Maybe MGT needs a good whack of their own every now and then ;)
